The Bow Valley Riptides Swim Club offers competitive and non-competitive swim programs for all ages and swimming abilities at Elevation Place in Canmore, Alberta. Our trained and certified coaches will provide all swimmers the chance to achieve their goals and experience personal success. Swim meet attendance is optional, but encouraged, for all swimmers.

Swim School 1 (SS1)

A non-competitive eleven week Learn-to-Swim session for ages 5-9 strongly targeting the FUNdamentals of swimming and water safety, encouraging swimmers to enjoy their time in the water, and develop their skills both in and out of the water.

Fees: $300 – includes Swim Alberta insurance

Swim School 2 (SS2)

For swimmers that have already taken one session of swim school, or are entering from Red Cross 3 or higher, but are not ready to move up to Novice 1 quite yet. SS2 will continue to focus on the FUNdamentals of swimming, with full introductions to competitive strokes and skills, including dives, turns and competition skills. The focus will be on short distance, high quality swimming, with fundamental movement literacy dryland work.

Fees: $300 – includes Swim Alberta insurance

Tues & Thurs – 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm

Please note that there is no free trial week for swim school as this program fills up every session. There are no parent volunteer requirements for this program.

Novice 1 (N1)

Introduction to competitive swimming for 6-11 yrs. The Novice group will have 15 minutes dryland and 1 hour in the water. Emphasis is placed on skill acquisition and development of all four competitive strokes along with fun in the water in a team environment. Swimmers will set goals and work as a group to develop themselves as swimmers and teammates.  Completion of SS2 is encouraged but not essential. Assessments may be done to determine suitability for the group.

Attendance at swim meets is encouraged but not mandatory.

Choose any 2 or 3 practices: Monday to Friday from 4:45 – 6:00 pm

Swim 2 or 3 times per week for 60 min – 2 to 3 hours/week
Full Season – Oct 2 – June 28
Sessions – Fall: Oct 2 – Dec 21; Winter: Jan 8 – Mar 29; Spring – Apr 9 – Jun 28
Payment options:

  1. One payment of $1500 for full season or $500 per session
  2. 3 payments of $500, due Sept, Jan and April

Novice 2 (N2)

Growth of a competitor, swimmers aged 8-11 will continue to refine their swim skills in a fun and competitive team environment. Emphasis is still strongly placed on FUNdamentals and skill acquisition with the development now aimed towards competition outcomes with high quality short distance swimming. Continuing to work individually and as a team towards goals.

Note: Completion of Novice 1 (N1) is mandatory.

Swimmers encouraged to compete in novice competitions in Canmore and Calgary.

White

Competitive swimming group for 10-12 yrs. Emphasis is placed on technique in the four competitive strokes and competition skills. Swimmers will continue to hone skills learnt in Novice, adding in race plans and training focuses. Improvement in swimming fitness as well as fun in the water are both a huge part of the season along with a big emphasis on the aspect of a team and teammates helping each other throughout the year.  Swimmers will be working towards a performance goal of Alberta South Provincials.

Swim meets approximately once per month with most competitions in Calgary. Opportunities to travel to Edmonton and Team Travel meets outside of the province.

Choose any 3 to 4 practices: Monday to Friday from 3:45 – 5:45 pm

Season from Oct 2 – June 28 (Oct 2-Dec 21; Jan 8-Mar 29; Apr 9-Jun 28)
Swim 3 or 4 times per week – 6 to 8 hours/week

Red

Focus remains on skill acquisition as well as refining competitive skills. Swimmers, aged 12-16, will begin to take a leadership role within the group and with the Novice swimmers. Swimmers will work on more complex aspects of the sport, both mental and physical, whilst learning dedication to training and teammates. Swimmers will be working toward achieving the Alberta Championship Standards in their training.

Swim meets approximately once per month with most competitions in Calgary. Opportunities for Team Travel Meets outside the province.

Choose any 4-7 practices: Mon to Fri from 3:45 to 5:45 pm and Wed/Fri 6:00 – 7:45 am

Season from Oct 2 – June 28 (Oct 2-Dec 21; Jan 8-Mar 29; Apr 9-Jun 28)

Gold

The top training group. Focus is on training performance athletes across all the strokes, distances, techniques to focus on performance outcomes in competition. Swimmers will be encouraged to take a strong leadership role within the club for all swimmers as well as show commitment and discipline to their training and the sport. These swimmers will be working towards solidifying Alberta Championship standards as well as working towards Western and National time standards.

Practice: Mon to Fri from 3:45 – 5:45 pm and Wed/Fri 6:00 – 7:45 am

Season from Oct 2 to June 28 (Oct 2-Dec 21; Jan 8-Mar 29; Apr 9-Jun 28)
Swim 6-7x per week – total of 10-14 hours/week

Swim Alberta fees: All swimmers must register with Swim Alberta once per year. The money is passed directly to Swim Alberta and covers your insurance. Your insurance is valid from Sept 1, 2016 – Aug 31, 2017. Swim Alberta fees are not included in the cost of registration.
