Neo-Fly

In an exciting weekend of racing at the Winter Cup Invitational in Calgary, the Riptides brought home 22 medals, broke two club records and swam personal bests in almost every event.  The seventeen swimmers competed against over 300 swimmers and fourteen teams from southern Alberta and BC.

Neo led the boys with 1 gold, 3 silver, and 2 bronze medals in the individual events. He also combined with Aidan, Sean and Riley for a gold medal in the boys 12-13 medley relay. In a close exciting race, the boys finished second but were awarded gold when the team that finished first was disqualified.  In the free relay, Neo, Riley, Sean and Alex took the silver.

Avi led the girls with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals. She broke Brea’s 2008 club record in the girls 10&U 100 back with a time of 1:30.23, finishing her last meet as a 10&U swimmer with 9 individual club records and 6 relay club records.

Other multiple medal winners were Josh with 3 silver, and Avery and Aidan with one silver and one bronze each. Sean, Emiko and Rachel took one bronze each.

The girls 11-12 relay team of Avery, Emiko, Maja and Rachel won silver and smashed the 200 medley relay club record by 17 seconds. In an exciting 200 free relay they finished third as the top four teams finished within seconds of each other.

After lots of hard work in the pool, Emily qualified for the Alberta Age Group Trials for the first time, swimming 16 seconds faster than the qualifying standard needed in the 200 free. In a breakthrough meet for her, she dropped huge amounts of time in each race and had 5 top ten finishes.

Next up for the club is the J.P. Fiset International Meet in Edmonton, a massive 4 day meet featuring some of the fastest swimmers from Western Canada and the Territories.
