Lethbridge Spring Challenge

Wow! What an unbelievable weekend for the team. Friday, the training went very well. The swimmers worked hard. They also had a chance to to meet Ryan Thornley who has just returned from the Olympic trials. He was awarded Athlete of the Year from Lethbridge University 2011/12. Ryan kindly gave the Riptides swimmers a talk on his experiences as a swimmer and what it takes to achieve your potential as an athlete.

What a fantastic meet! The team did an amazing job racing for 100% best times!!! Yes all of the swimmers ended the weekend with all best times and four 3rd place finishes.

Congratulation to our new Age Group Trials qualifiers Sean Parker in his 400 Free with a time of 6:45.64 beating the meet qualifying time (MQT) by 10 sec. of 6:55.00 for 11 year olds.

Nick Anderson-Young collected one 3rd place in his 400 Free.

Neo Gleason made all the “B” standards times in his races and wound up with three 3rd places in 50 Fly, 50 Back and 50 Free.

The most improved swimmer of the meet goes to Neil Slemko, dropping an amazing 18 seconds in 50 Free and 35 seconds in 100 Free.

Also congratulations to Amanda Graham who this year has swum 100% best times in every race she has entered.

Thanks to the Chaperon(ne)s; they did an amazing job helping the group and feeding those hungry swimmers who eat a lot. Also thanks to Laura for all the logistics and guiding the chaperons to team success.

We now have three qualifiers for Age Group Trials: Neo, Nick & Sean, which will take place from June 15 to 17 in Lethbridge.
